Short answer: mango is genuinely acidic as a food and alkaline-forming in the body, and it is approved. It is one of the cleanest illustrations of why those two things are different measurements.
The numbers
Mango measures pH 3.40 to 4.80 depending on ripeness and variety. That is properly acidic — below the 4.6 line food scientists use to separate high-acid from low-acid foods. Under-ripe mango sits at the lower end.
Its PRAL is −3.3: alkaline-forming, and more so than cucumber or watermelon.
Is mango Dr. Sebi approved?
Yes. Mango appears on every reproduction of the approved fruit list.
Why the two numbers disagree
A food’s pH is a direct reading of what is in your hand. PRAL estimates what is left for your kidneys to deal with after digestion, calculated from protein, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and calcium.
Stomach acid sits around pH 1.5 to 3.5, more acidic than almost any food. Whether something arrives at pH 3.4 or 6.4 makes very little difference by the time it is through. What persists is the mineral content — and mango is potassium-rich.
Honey is the most extreme version of this gap, at pH 3.9 and still alkaline-forming.
One thing worth being straight about
None of this changes the pH of your blood. Your lungs and kidneys hold it between 7.35 and 7.45 whatever you eat — a reading outside that range is a medical emergency, not a dietary outcome. What food shifts is urine pH, which is your kidneys processing the acid load from your meal. That is the honest extent of what PRAL tells you.
Common questions
Is mango too acidic for reflux?
Acidic foods can trigger symptoms in some people, though trigger foods are individual. The acidity of the fruit is the relevant number here, not the PRAL.
Are all mango varieties approved?
The guide names mango without restricting the variety.
Does ripeness change it?
Ripe mango is less acidic than under-ripe. The PRAL direction does not change.
